Hyperlane Foundation Launches Token Claim, but Morse Holders Are Left Out – For Now

The Hyperlane Foundation has officially launched the long-anticipated claim of HYPER tokens, signaling a major milestone for the project and its community.

However, among the celebrations, holders of the Morse 404 NFT collection were noticeably absent from the eligibility list. Yet, there is reason for optimism — something promising appears to be reserved for this community.

A New Hope for Blockchain Interoperability

"Rebellions are built on hope." These words resonate deeply with Hyperlane’s mission. Crypto was born from the hope of change, offering open, permissionless financial systems to rival traditional centralized structures.

Yet, as the ecosystem expanded, a paradox emerged: although permissionless blockchains flourished, they became increasingly dependent on centralized bridges to communicate with each other.

Hyperlane offers a "New Hope." Its vision is simple yet powerful: open blockchains require open interoperability. By staying true to this ethos, Hyperlane has quietly expanded over the past three years, connecting over 140 blockchains — the most of any interoperability network — with minimal resources and a fiercely loyal community.

Applications built on Hyperlane have transmitted nearly 9 million cross-chain messages, and Warp Routes created on the platform have bridged over $6 billion in volume. Much of this success is owed to Hyperlane’s radically open architecture, enabling developers to build, customize, and expand without centralized barriers.

HYPER Token: Aligning Value with Contribution

At the heart of Hyperlane’s next chapter is the HYPER token, designed to fuel the network’s continued expansion and decentralization. With the principle of "Use Hyperlane → Own Hyperlane," the network ensures that those who contribute to its growth are rewarded with ownership.

Token Mechanics

  • Expansion Rewards: Users earn HYPER proportional to the number of messages they send across chains.
  • Staking Rewards: Validators and stakers securing the network will receive rewards, with the option for liquid staking via stHYPER.
  • Governance: HYPER will play a role in coordinating behavior among stakeholders to maintain a secure and resilient ecosystem.

The token launch follows a carefully thought-out distribution model, emphasizing community ownership. Over 57% of the total supply is earmarked for the community, including users, developers, and stakers.

The initial circulating supply at the Token Generation Event (TGE) is 177.7 million HYPER, with a total maximum supply of one billion to be reached over 25 years.

Token Allocations: Who Is Eligible?

The Expansion Drop at TGE distributes 7.5% of the total supply to early users, proportionate to their contribution in the first 8.6 million cross-chain messages sent via Hyperlane, as recorded by a snapshot taken on February 28, 2025.

Community (57.02% of total supply)

  • Expansion Rewards (25.50%): Distributed quarterly based on message fees. 6.25% of the total supply will be distributed at TGE to users who spent at least ~$5 in fees.
  • Strategic Launch Provision (11.52%): Supports HYPER liquidity, boosts OpenUSDT minting, and retroactively rewards early contributors, specific NFT holders, liquidity providers, and top community members.
    • As part of the Strategic Launch Provision, a small allocation was reserved for holders of specific NFT collections. Hyperlane allocated 0.02% of the total supply to addresses that held either Celestine Sloth Society or Mammoths NFTs at the time of the snapshot.
    • However, despite the longstanding collaboration between Mitosis and Hyperlane, the Morse NFT collection was left out of the Strategic Launch Provision allocation.
  • Staking Rewards (20.00%): Distributed linearly over 25 years with quarterly minting; 0% circulating at TGE.

Bootstrappers (42.98%)

  • Core Team (25.00%): 25% unlocks after 12 months, then linear vesting over 2 years.
  • Foundation Treasury (7.11%): Managed for long-term protocol growth (grants, R&D); unlocks linearly after a 6-month cliff over 30 months.
  • Early Backers (10.87%): 25% unlocks after 12 months, then linear vesting over 2 years.

Morse Holders Left Out – But Hope Remains

Despite their significant involvement, Morse 404 NFT holders were not included in the Community Drop allocations. This came as a surprise, especially considering the partnership between Hyperlane and Mitosis — a collaboration that marked a pivotal step forward for blockchain interoperability.

Mitosis was one of the earliest adopters of Hyperlane, contributing to its CosmWasm implementation and showcasing the flexibility and scalability of the protocol. For Hyperlane, the partnership demonstrated technical excellence. For Mitosis, it allowed broader multichain support from the outset.

Yet, the exclusion of Morse holders from the airdrop does not mark the end. The Hyperlane team has assured that once Mitosis is live on mainnet and transactions begin routing through Hyperlane, the Mitosis community will have much to celebrate.

For now, the community must wait for the Mitosis Layer 1 mainnet launch. With patience and a little hope, rewarding opportunities could soon follow.
